PARAGON LOST (TITLE PENDING) - FIRST DRAFT PROGRESS METER
December 20th, 2015
It's been a while, guys! Excuse the absence in updates -- I'm getting ready to hit finals soon for my Series 7, so things are going to be hectic for just a little while longer.
However, in my spare time, I've been working on my latest book. But there's good news and bad news.
I'll start with the bad news because I always like letting people off on a good note.
Bad news:
Paragon Lost is apparently already taken, so I'll have to rework the title.
Good news:
1) It's not very difficult coming up with a new name.
2) I wasn't particularly attached to the title anyway.
3) A progress bar will show up in these updates from time to time, not only to keep me glued to this project, but to let you know how things are going along with the first draft.

PARAGON LOST (TITLE PENDING) - FIRST DRAFT PROGRESS METER

First off, I want to address the several weeks' worth of lacking material for this page. I've received a few messages asking about my updates, and to that I say: I've been bogged down, I'm sorely apologetic, but I'm trying to work on Paragon Lost whenever I find the time.
Secondly, my Series 7 training is getting intense, and that leaves me with little energy to write quality work. Much of what I've been producing after 8+ hour training days has been halfhearted, and that's unacceptable; I refuse to write down anything less than what I believe to be my best. Paragon Lost will be my best work yet -- I guarantee that.
So I ask that you please give me your patience and understanding while I work my way through these next few weeks. I'll try to update whenever possible. Thank you, and happy writing/reading.

Due to work-related obligations, I will not take part, but rest assured, Paragon Lost is chugging away.

Big news today: a new Musing of the Week is FINALLY here. I'm not guaranteeing a constant supply of these, but I'm definitely setting aside more time to type these up. To make up for the lack of content over the past few weeks, I included a bonus -- a Top 10 list of films that I happen to enjoy, but others don't really care for.

Sad to say it, but I've experienced a loss in my life recently. It's been a bit of a tough over the past few weeks, but I'm focusing more on writing now than before. This is when art makes the biggest difference in an artist's life. Writing has helped me before, and it will help me again. To those of you who keep in regular contact with me, thank you for all your support. It means the world to me.
As for an update on Paragon Lost, I'm currently drafting Chapter 7. It's looking to be my best work yet, and I couldn't be prouder.

I'm taking part in a 5,000-word goal today with some friends on Facebook. So far, I'm about a fifth of the way through, and that spells good news for Paragon Lost. Judging from personal experience, when the words to a first draft flow like an open tap, that's how you know you're writing something really fun. It's still early in the morning, so I'm betting I'll meet this goal.
Also, we have turtle bread in the house today! Hope everyone's having a great Friday!

Well, my pre-licensing is complete. I have about 13 or so days for light studies for my big-boy job, but in the interim, I get to write Paragon Lost! I'm so excited to report that 2 whole chapters have been completed today. Super thrilled to share the story with everyone in the coming months.

I apologize for being MIA for a week, but I've been bogged down with getting some training in for work. Here's some great news, however: I'll be working on Paragon Lost as soon as I get a free moment, which will, thankfully, be very soon! That's right -- a full-length dystopian-fantasy is in the works, and I'm super excited to get this one under way. Those of you who are signed up for the newsletter will get the news & giveaways first (sign-up form is listed in the CONTACTS section of this site). Stay tuned for further updates!

Sent out a new short story, Vagrant Anne, to my beta readers today. Excited to read their feedback!
Here's the impromptu synopsis:
"Marcus Weber is a troubled man. Caught between managing a gas station, dealing with his father’s recent passing, and being a quality husband and father to his own kids, Marcus struggles to keep his anger under wraps. He shouts and breaks things often, becoming the butt of many jokes to the neighborhood children. That’s when a homeless woman simply known as Vagrant Anne enters his life."

I hate to say it, but there's no Musing of the Week this week. I've been recently offered a position in my field and, for at least a little while, I'll have my nose to the grindstone. My days have been consisting of waking up at 5 am, swimming until 6:45, and then studying all day. There are some meals and bathroom breaks in between, but for the most part, it's like college all over again. Suffice it to say, I won't have much time for writing during this time.
As for a book update: My King My All - Volume II is in its editing phase, pre-Beta. I'd estimate around a week or two worth of work before it's Beta-ready.
Fear not, however, I'm not giving up my writing, nor am I abandoning this site. I will try my absolute best to keep fresh content coming while I study, but the site can't return to its normal functioning until I pass the Series 7 exam.
Additional content will be sent through my Facebook author page, as well. Once all of this is done, I'll have an email newsletter set up, as well.
To make up for the lack of content, I designed this picture for my upcoming dystopian novel, Paragon Lost. (Title pending).

I've added a new, personal section to the site. Long story short, I'm building a library for my future children. The current inventories are very modest, and smaller than the average person's collection. The reason for this is also a long story, so I'll keep that simple, as well: I was forced to read as a child; schools offered a horrible perspective into the phenomenal world of reading (boring, forced, and brimming with punishment). Therefore, I hated reading until the age of 20. It's only then that I started reading heavily. For the past year, I've been collecting books for my kids. The list can be seen here, as well as in the top bar under "more...": V.C. Remus Library

The betas are busy reading their copy of My King, My All Vol I., and the reception is rather nice from what I've gathered. A lot better than I'd imagined, actually. I'm infinitely grateful for their efforts in netting some major errors that've flown under the radar.
Also, one of my favorite authors of all time, George R.R. Martin, may have completed The Winds of Winter, the sixth installment in the A Song of Fire and Ice series! Needless to say, I'm ecstatic to pick that one up and add it to the collection.

Also, my review for "The Roses: An Anthology" is up in Notable Reviews now!
June 8th, 2015
So much has happened in one week! I'll start from the beginning:
1) First and foremost, a paperback version of The Dockland Kingslayer has been released! I've been working on another project called My King, My All; fans of The Dockland Kingslayer will understand that reference. For those of you who don't, it's a story set three-hundred years prior, before the MacKinnons' steam contraptions and during the Goldshadow Dominion's rule. I've finished the first draft and am currently in the initial editing phase. More details concerning that project to come.
2) Another Musing of the Week has been posted. Writers, learn how to keep it simple and cut right to the chase. Be considerate about your readers' time!
3) I'm currently reviewing Andrea Mouser, Laney Smith, and Alda Mørkøre Nielsdóttir et al's anthology, The Roses: An Anthology. Until then, check out some other Notable Reviews.
June 1st, 2015
Happy June, everyone! It's unexpectedly chilly here in the Chicagoland area today, but I'll make the most of it and take a nice jog around the neighborhood to warm up those atrophied muscles.
Today, I'm proud to introduce a new segment on my page, where I'll be discussing just about whatever comes to mind, whether it's about marketing tips, thoughts on indie writing and publishing in general, or helpful writing pointers. Quite a number of people have asked for help pertaining to those topics, and well, I wouldn't have sold any copies of The Dockland Kingslayer if I didn't heed their advice.
In addition, I plan on releasing the review for Dean F. Wilson's action-packed Steampunk novel, Hopebreaker today! Check it out under Notable Reviews later this evening.
May 29th, 2015
The past few days have been rough. The Dockland Kingslayer managed to hit the top of Amazon's Hot New Releases for Teen and YA Steampunk, as well as topping the charts for Steampunk in three different categories. Naturally, I've devoted a lot of time to marketing.
I plan on adding a blog section on this page, as well, as a few of my author friends have requested different marketing tips and tricks that others could possibly find useful -- I'm no expert, but I know a few things. Stay tuned for after this weekend to find that segment.
Also, I'm cranking away on Dean F. Wilson's Hopebreaker and I'm loving it so far. The review will be posted later next week.
May 25th, 2015
The review for Nicholas Sansbury Smith's Extinction Edge is hot off the press! Go check it out under Notable Reviews.
Also, I'm beginning Dean F. Wilson's Steampunk novel Hopebreaker today. I've been waiting to read this one for quite some time.
May 22nd, 2015
Sorry for the delay in posting. I've been swamped, reading many different authors' work, marketing, and writing whenever I have the chance. Stayed tuned for Nicholas Sansbury Smith's "Extinction Edge" review coming this weekend.
May 17th, 2015
In addition to reading Nicholas Sansbury Smith's "Extinction Edge," I think today is going to be a day devoted to writing.
May 15th, 2015
I'm excited to announce that I've just started Nicholas Sansbury Smith's action-packed infection novel, "Extinction Edge". It's the second book in his Extinction Cycle series. Stay tuned for the coming review!

The review for Derin Attwood's YA fantasy, "The Caves of Kirym" is up-and-running under "Notable Reviews". Go check it out!
May 12th, 2015
I'm reading "The Caves of Kirym" by indie author Derin Attwood. I haven't read anything by a New Zealander before, but I've had several opportunities to speak with this delightful woman and she's not only dedicated to her craft, but readily available to assist just about anyone. So far so good. Stay tuned for the review in the coming days.

Steamworks in the Bylea started in 2013 and finally reached its moment of publication today, May 11th, 2015. The book is finally live, and I couldn't be happier with the result. Through years of research and meticulous editing, the book is ready for the public eye.
Make sure to check it out on Amazon. At only $2.99, it's a deal you simply cannot pass up.

The very first paperback copy of The Dockland Kingslayer was signed today. I'm so grateful to have people in my life who are willing to not only read my book, but share a piece of the magic with me. If anyone else would like a signed copy, my contact info is at the bottom of the page. Shoot me an email and we'll work something out.
Also, my review for "The Roses: An Anthology" is up in Notable Reviews now!
